Hi there! Welcome to the LeakyCon Sched.org! Please note, that signing up for this site or indicating which sessions you will be at is not at all required. You cannot reserve a seat to a session on this site; if a session looks "full" it’s only because we input the capacity of the rooms. All sessions at LeakyCon are first-come first-serve except for the autograph and photo-booth sessions that indicate otherwise. Lit programming may still only be attended by those who have a Lit badge (these are now sold out). Again: you do not have to sign up for this site or use it in any way in order to go to any event at LeakyCon. it’s a way for you to find other people who are interested in the same things you are, and a way for you to show your friends on Facebook, Twitter, and beyond what you’re interested in at the conference. But it is not in ANY way a ticketing system. We hope you enjoy surfing the schedule!

Is Fanfiction Literature?

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule and see who's attending!

The co-hosts of wizard rock podcast The Witching Hour will facilitate a discussion on the literary merit, challenges and significance of fan fiction. From My Immortal to the Draco Trilogy, "fan fiction" encompasses a huge range of written works. Together, we'll explore fan fiction as an educational writing tool, a vehicle for becoming a published author, a huge copyright issue, and a questionably "legitimate" form of literature. Bring your favorite fic, so we can all share!

Claire Johnson

Claire Johnson, originally from Portland, Oregon, is a lifelong Potter fan and a rising senior at Whitman College, majoring in Politics and Art. She joined The Witching Hour her freshman year and has loved all the zany, weird, and fascinating things she has learned about the Potterverse and beyond as a result.

Mehera Nori

Mehera is a member of The Witching Hour crew and was a DJ from 2010 through 2012. Mehera graduated from Whitman College with degrees in politics and Spanish and is currently planning on selling her soul to law school. She spent the last nine months living in Shanghai, China, where she got really good at using chopsticks. Mehera spends her free time crying over Buffy the Vampire Slayer, reading up on how to blend herbal teas, and blogging.

Sara Rasmussen

Sara is a web designer and non-profit communications professional based in Walla Walla, WA. She studied politics as a student at Whitman College, where she started The Witching Hour. She loves having crazy theoretical discussions about tiny facets of the Harry Potter universe. She couldn't possibly choose one favorite wizard rock band, but if you ask, she'll give you a 10-minute breakdown of the best from each subgenre.
